Meet Our Leadership Team

Ed Matteson is our President, leading the company’s operations to achieve excellence in patient care, build strong relationships with health systems, and deliver significant growth. He joined the organization in 2019 as the Chief Operating Officer before moving into his new role in 2022. Ed has spent his entire twenty-two-year career in the EMS industry.

Ed began his career as an EMT, then as a firefighter and paramedic. He has worked in operational and executive leadership positions and has built high-quality, sustainable ambulance services for government entities, health systems, and Fortune 100 companies.

During Ed’s tenure, MMT Ambulance has grown to become one of the country’s largest and most respected EMS providers by partnering with many large health systems

Brian Lohrding is our Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining MMT, Brian was the CFO for Acadia

Healthcare’s Comprehensive Treatment Centers (CTC) business unit, which spanned 32 states and generated $500 million in net revenue. He has over fifteen years of experience as a CFO in high-growth healthcare service organizations with a strong focus on revenue cycle operations.

Brian holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor University.

David Koopmans is our Chief Information Officer. Before joining MMT, David was the CIO and EVP of Operations at CSAT Solutions, a commercial, healthcare and consumer electronic and device repair service and distribution center for the largest manufacturers in the world. He has over 25 years of experience in simplifying, streamlining and integrating complex business processes and IT systems for medical device repair and airline operations management companies.

David attended Lonestar College and Whatcom Community College, where he studied business administration.

Janis Hardie is our Vice President of Human Resources. With over 25 years of HR experience, she has led human capital strategies in several different industries including healthcare, retail, education and financial services often during times of transformation. Janis has expertise in developing HR strategies, leading recruitment, talent management, as well as managing the human capital components of acquisitions.

Janis holds an Executive MBA and an MA in project management from the University of St. Thomas and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota.

Suzie Manella is our Vice President of Marketing and Communications at MMT Ambulance. Before joining MMT, she was the Vice President of Marketing and Communications for Phoenix Physical Therapy, an outpatient physical therapy company with over 150 clinics. Suzie is experienced in leading marketing and communication initiatives to accelerate growth, manage change, increase employee engagement and build brand awareness. She has held numerous executive leadership roles within high- growth, distributed service businesses, including staffing, contract food service, and physical therapy.

Suzie holds a Bachelor of Science in marketing and management from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Bonta is our Chief Medical Officer. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science degree and completed his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Nebraska School of Medicine in Omaha, NE. His residency training in Emergency Medicine was completed in 2002, with service at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN where he served as chief resident in his final year.

Dr. Bonta is recognized as a national leader in EMS. He is a member of Nebraska Emergency Medicine, P.C., where he practices Emergency Medicine at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln, NE. He previously served on the State of Nebraska EMS board for ten years. He was a consultant for CAAS, the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services, and served as a Medical Team Manager for Nebraska’s USAR Task Force for 20 years. Dr. Bonta joined MMT Ambulance in 2014 as the company’s Chief Medical Officer. He is also the Medical Director for the Bryan Health Emergency Department paramedic program and Apollo Med Flight. Dr. Bonta is involved in medicolegal consulting in EMS and received his EMS board certification in 2017. His focus in EMS is training and education, EMS leadership, professional development, and building EMS communities.
